| In the academic year ‘91/’92 the faculties social sciences and geography started with setting up an economics project in Utrecht. It was in this year that the studies SIE and IE & EG took off. In 1992 ECU’92 was put up by two students SIE and IE & EG. The very first General Meeting was held on March 24th 1992 in the Bondsraadzaal of the National Labourunion museum in Amsterdam, this is the official date of birth of ECU’92. Actually the date is just before the birthday of the University Utrecht, on March 26th. The initial years of ECU’92 are characterised as a club of friends having a good time. Multiple committees found their existence during this era: the relaxcie, the sponsorcommittee, activities committee, editorial committee and booksale committee. After a brief period at the Uithof, in 1995 ECU’92 moved to the Biltstraat. In 1997-1998 ECU’92 further professionalised by stating the four major goals of the association. The 21st century beckoned and by September 2000 it became possible to do a complete economics study. Apart from a large increase in economic students, ECU’92 took off and soon the 1.000 members mark was met. A single room wasn’t sufficient any more and in 2003 the second room at the UCU building opened, the other room has moved in the mean time from Biltstraat, to Pnyx, to Vredenburg and nowadays at Janskerkhof. ECU’92 has been helpful to students and the Utrecht School of Economics alike, organising the bachelor-study introduction week, congresses on important topics, discussions with famous names from business and government and parties to stimulate the social interaction.
